We’ve been munching our way through Real Bread Week, enjoying the delights made on our recent Introduction to Scandinavian Baking course, planning Pizza for supper and looking ahead to the classes that we are running up until Easter.
We were delighted to discover that our Seville Orange Marmalade won another award at the World Marmalade Awards, so good job we’ve got Real Bread to toast for breakfast each morning!
In the garden the daffodils are blooming, the peach tree is in blossom and the bees are flying on foraging trips to bring nectar back to the hive. It won’t be long before we welcome families to join us for Easter at Hen Corner.

Real Bread Week 21st Feb – 1st March is a celebration of flour, water, salt and yeast – keeping it real and making it available to local communities.
Regular readers will remember the MicroBakery that we ran for 10 years, well now it’s time to pass on all my knowledge to a new cohort on our Become a Bread Angel – Start your own Micro Bakery course. We’ve still got a few spaces if you’d like to join us next month (11th & 12th March), get in touch if you are interested!
If an Introduction to Making Bread course is more for you, we’ve got a couple of spaces on Tuesday 17th March and if you fancy learning both bread AND cheese, then check out Introduction to Making Cheese on Wednesday 25th March.

As we welcome spring, we can’t help smiling, as hot cross buns are always popular in our house!
For grown ups, we will be making them, along with our award winning Easter Apricot Couronne and Spring Lemon Butterfly cakes on Introduction to Easter Baking , whilst everyone, young and old, get their fingers in the flour at Easter at Hen Corner on Saturday 4th April.
Our recent Growing the Good Life day was wonderful. The sun shone as we toured the garden, looking at the various growing spaces, fruit trees and bushes.
We potted up the hardwood berry cuttings that had grown over winter and planted potatoes, then went inside to sow seeds for this year’s crops. The next date for this course will be a summer special on Thursday 18th June.
Our chickens start their spring tour next weekend with a visit to The Spring Market at Syon Park Conservatory, we’ll be there 12-3pm on Saturday 7th March, we then take them to a group of Squirrels (the youngest Scouts) later in the month, followed by every day at the Ideal Home Show, Olympia London, 10th – 19th April, more details soon…
