Bread & Cheese… Mmmmm!

A flying start to the year:

We have hit the ground running and have been very busy in the bakery; we’ve already baked 100 loaves for Hounslow FoodBox, just throughout the month of January, thanks so much to our customers who sponsor loaves to top up our regular donations.

We’ve got a fresh love for homemade cheese

As you know, we love to live a the country life here in the city, but when we get a chance to get away, we head to the hills, or more recently to the sea. Last October, we had a wonderful holiday in County Kerry, Ireland completely surrounded by beautiful countryside, with a few opportunities for some sea swimming.

Some friends who had visited the area previously had told us to look out for ‘The Cheese Man’ who makes Gouda in his cottage using milk from his Jersey cows. After finding him and buying some of his fabulous produce, I’ve started making a wider range of cheese and look forward to sharing skills on Introduction to Making Cheese on Wednesday 8th March.

Whilst we are brushing up on our artisan food skills, we’ve got Introduction to Making Pasta on Tuesday 14th March, where we’ll be pressing spaghetti and hanging it up to dry along with tagliatelle, tortellini and ravioli.

Tickets are selling fast for our Easter Specials:

This year we’ve created a brand new course Introduction to Easter Baking on Wednesday 29th March

Not forgetting our ever-popular Easter at Hen Corner on Saturday 8th April

Don’t forget – if you’ve been on a course before you can have 20% discount!

Other news:
  • This year’s marmalade has been simmered, chopped, boiled and potted up
  • The bees are enjoying the sunny afternoons and are flying out for the first forage
  • We’ve entered six of our popular products into the Great Taste Awards
Jobs for the week:
  • Bottle up the cider, it’s had long enough in the demijohn and we’ll be wanting to drink it after an afternoon’s gardening
  • Start to sow tomatoes, peppers and aubergines in the heated propagator
  • Test bake some flours from a new mill – which will be our favourite?

Are you looking forward to the new growing season?

What are your favourite crops?

Hope to see you soon,

Sara
