Hip hip hooray! It’s always good to give a cheer and, whilst we are jolly proud of our recent awards, we’ve also been delighted to welcome a team of heroes for the day, supporting Help for Heroes with a bee keeping experience for a group of wounded injured and sick veterans.

Phew it’s hot, but you won’t catch me complaining…
We’ve just come back from a fabulous holiday in France to discover that the figs are ripe and fit to burst, the bees are busy scooting around for the final forage of the season and our sweetcorn plants are reaching for the sky. -
There’s only one this on my mind this time of year and that’s strawberries!
This year we’ve got them growing on the allotment and we are picking them by the kilo… -
I love June and, whilst it’s usually mad dogs and Englishmen that throw caution to the wind, we’ve been getting out in the midday sun – and have had a great time!
Often with the best weather of the year, we’ve been teaching in schools, running around after swarms of bees and cooling off with regular swims in west London lakes.

This week Hen Corner celebrated it’s 12th birthday!
Well, it’s a bit tricky to decide exactly when our way of life was birthed, so the date in the diary is the anniversary of our first blog post when we had given a name to our journey and had begun to share our story. -
It all began in a Sunday School team meeting when we were discussing how to celebrate Easter this year and someone nudged me and said ‘Couldn’t we have some chicks?’…

Promises of Spring!
As the days get longer, nature seems to respond with an unfurling to feel the warmth of the sun and hope is inhaled by all that breathe. -
When our friends at Omlet got in touch to say that they were writing a new book about chickens and could I contribute, of course I said yes! The Omlet team have been coming to Hen Corner for staff training over many years and so it was no surprise when it was my quiche recipe that they asked for, as they’d each enjoyed it for lunch on our courses.
