We love helping children understand where their food comes from, both in school and here at Hen Corner…
This week, there were no chickens 🐓 or bees 🐝 involved as we made plant based 🌱pasta 🍝 at @threebridgesprimary
We began by talking wheat 🌾 and #BakeYourLawn with @realbreadcampaign and then chose beetroot or spinach purée for a super smooth dough…
Oh! And they have ducks in the playground 🦆🦆🙌🏻

We don’t often run a course on a Saturday, but when we do - it’s well worth it!
We had a fab day in the glorious sunshine ☀️
* Morning focussing on honey bees and their lifecycle (collecting bees from the hive)
* Homemade lunch
* Afternoon focussing on the role of the bee keeper (inspecting a different colony)
* Wrapping up by tasting Honey from around the world
Next date is Saturday 15th June - Come on you bees 🙌🏻🐝🐝🐝

Bees need to drink water and need a safe landing spot that allows them to drink and fly off again…They can’t fly straight from water so adding plants and floating corks to ponds and open water containers really helps bees and stops them from drowning 🐝 #beekeeping #savethebees

We had a fab group of bakers on today’s Full Day Making Sourdough!
Recipes for the day included:
🌾Classic Wheat Sourdough
🥜Cranberry & Pecan Sourdough – Great Taste Award ⭐️
🥖Malted Grain Sourdough
🍞Seeded Rye Sourdough
🍒Spiced Fruit Sourdough Buns
And with lunch we sliced open the very first ever Fennel Salami & Olive Sourdough made with fabulous artisan salami from our friends at @braycured
*Locals can order for collection on Fridays

New season asparagus 🙌🏻
Once you’ve tasted homegrown, you’ll never buy it again…
It’s also a great way to reduce your carbon footprint - one bunch of homegrown saves nearly 5kg CO2 (vs shop bought) and a weekly harvest from April to June (12 weeks) = 60kg of CO2 saved 🌱🌍🌱

The little cranberry bush that I planted in a hidden dark corner years and years ago offered up a full harvest this winter and I’ve only just found the berries on the ground…
