Safeguarding Statement (updated 5th June 2018)

Be it Chickens, Bees, Life Cycles or Food Production, it’s always a privilege to support children and young people as they experience something new and grow in their understanding.

Over the years we have worked with families, schools, uniformed groups, community centres and wider educational projects both here at Hen Corner or off site at another location.

In every situation, all children engaging with Hen Corner activities are accompanied by a parent, teacher or other supervising adult. We are never alone when working with children and as such, our programmes are not classed as Regulated Activity as defined by the DBS and Department for Education. However, we are committed to good working practices as outlined below.

Team Leader – Sara Ward

Sara Ward has many years’ experience working with children and young people both in schools and within the voluntary sector. She spent many years overseeing the children’s and youth work at Bless Community Church, led the Education and Training team for an international AIDS Charity, is the Vice Chair of Governors at her local primary school and has invested several years supporting the Advisory Board for her local Children’s Centres.

Sara subscribes to the DBS Certificate Update Service and has full Public Liability Insurance and Risk Assessments for activities both on and off site. Full details are available on request.

Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) update service

The Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) update service lets applicants keep their DBS certificates up to date (live) online and allows employers to check a certificate online without requesting a new check each time. Please see full details here.
