Growing the Good Life
Drawing from 20 years’ experience, her book ‘Living the Good Life in the City’, and recently working with Gardeners’ World Magazine, Sara will share how she harvests around £5,000 of food each year from her London garden and nearby allotment.
Sara Ward will welcome you to Hen Corner with fresh coffee and home made bakes. After an introduction to our time together we will stroll around the garden, visiting the chickens and bees, and discover how we are choosing to live a more sustainable life.
Many of us want to start growing our own food but often don’t know where to begin. This interactive day will equip and inspire you to assess your own space, resources and time, planning for homegrown crops that you can harvest within weeks.
We are pleased to bring you this London ‘grow your own’ course.
Our time together will include:
- Planning your plot: from window boxes to allotment.
- Plan your space: what needs to be positioned where
- Plan your year: sowing, planting, protecting, pruning
- Plan your harvest: gathering, storing, preserving
We will enjoy a simple homemade lunch, with homegrown food, to fuel us for the tasks of the afternoon.

We will cover topics such as:
Essential equipment for starting out – Perennials & Annuals – Water harvesting & Compost – Germination & Propagation – Protecting from pests – Crop rotation – Winter pruning
Everyone goes home enthused and empowered to begin their own journey towards the good life!
‘Sara is a fantastic tutor; engaging and informative in perfect measure. These courses are excellent value for money; to learn in a home environment that you can easily replicate, with like minded enthusiasts.’
