Explore a week of sustainable living with Country Living Magazine columnist Sara Ward in the depths of the sunny Tarn-et-Garonne region of South West France.
Join us for this exclusive opportunity to develop new skills from the beautiful setting of Wild Oak Wood.
This all inclusive week, staying in luxury bell tents, will include local trips to discover traditional French food heroes in vineyards, apiaries, farms, mills and more, followed by hands on skills workshops that allow us to grow in both understanding and confidence as we aspire to a more self sufficient lifestyle.
This course includes the following : bread making, cheese making, beekeeping, a vineyard and french village market tour, plus cooking sessions and more
Sara trained as a Bread Angel with Jane Mason of Virtuous Bread back in 2015 and, in 2017, completed a Five Day Intensive Bread course and further Croissant & Viennoiserie training with Richard Bertinet at his Cookery School in Bath.
Our bee keeping began with our first training course at River Cottage in Dorset in May 2009. We’ve had honey bees at Hen Corner since August 2011 and were delighted to win First Prize for our London Honey at the National Honey Show in October 2012 followed by a silver cup in 2015 and an armful of awards in 2016.
We were very honoured in 2019 to have been recognised at the Urban Food Awards in a special category, Women in Food, and more recently as a Top Changemaker with The Big Issue. We continue to encourage others to live more sustainably through our series of courses and magazine articles.
We are now absolutely delighted to partner with our friends at Wild Oak Wood to bring you this exciting retreat. We first met on social media, following each others’ blogs, then visited their French home in the summer of 2014. We have kindred spirits and are looking forward to welcoming all our guests.
Hen Corner is always evolving thanks to Sara’s thirst for knowledge and keenness to learn and develop the business. She has many ideas for skills she wants to acquire and courses she wants to run.

Sara is a warm host and passionate and experienced Baker, amongst many other things! Upon arrival I was greeted by her beaming smile and to the wonderful smell of baked items…It was wonderful to have a full hands on experience..to smell, touch and work with the dough…for Sara to show us how to make small changes to our technique to improve the final result…
